Urban screens and media facades

Imagine a city using its facades intelligently and perhaps with an interactive or even an inclusive perspective. That was part of a workshop at the Institute of Information and Media Studies, University of Aarhus yesterday. Around 30 people from both research, private sector and local government got together and imagined how facades and city/building spaces could come alive and involve its viewers. Follow this link to view some of the outcome (will be available sometime during december 08). >> Digital Urban Living

Buy Obama

Just made this shirt design. And it can be purchased on a t-hirt here: TSHIRTSHOP

Who's the jerk, then?

What club are you?

!

Absolutely no idea where this friendly yet oddly disturbing message came from.

Illustrating a book

Just had the great opportunity to illustrate a book. Its about client communication, management and worklife of nurses and personell in a danish municipality - where the clients are the elderly. The department have been working on a developmentproject for over a year - and they decided to write a book. A great way to mark learning and new visions as important stuff! Just happy to be part of it - playing a very insignificant role. After all, I was just the man with the pen in the end!

Educational unequality

Lars Olsen, journalist and author, pins the danish educational system and society as a 5/6 society - where 1/6 is becoming more and more excluded - both from education and jobs. Read more on his website - below my notes from a seminar today.

Values and behavior

What you stand for and how you act: These must align, in order to be able to have a healthy, social relation to others. After all, that was the bottom line when TrueNorth held a presentation on their YouthCamp yesterday evening i Aalborg, Denmark - camps that offer a new platform for young people to learn how the really learn the best. Very inspiring - and I'm thinking, this is exactely what the school system needs - new ways to teach! Let's get going.

Designwork for a conference on climate and energy

Climate is the hot topic these days :-) Next week we are having a conference in my hometown - as the citycouncil is set on turning the city over to 100% renewable energy before 2015. Did the design and artwork - non-ecologically - sorry!!!

Drawings makes people participate

This is a few drawings I brought to a presentation, where I was asked to come up with some ideas on marketing a service from a local government. The drawings were presented one at a time - and the client was invited to think along, as the presentation evolved (on the wall at the clients office). We all had a great time - and oh, I played some music too - hope the drawings are still hanging :-)

Getting your hands dirty at the Ambition Factory

In august 2008, team 2 is checking in at the Ambition Factory in Frederikshavn, Denmark. The factory is a project based, 6 months training camp, where young people (age 16-25) stick their hands deep into the whole process of turning an idea into something that actually happens in real life. The picture above is from yesterday, when the room was filled with Factory wannabe's :-) We had a 2 hour session with 15 young kids, who just started their first job/training in the financial sector. In 2 hours, they produced three great ideas for activities in one of the town squares. Maybe we'll see a couple of these guys again, when august comes. >>Ambitionsfabrikken

Millioncultural Youth

Meet Zoran! Executive director at Miljonkulturel Ungdom in Stockholm, Sweden.
WEB!
And below some of my notes from a very inspiring meeting/talk/presentation at the MIKU HQ earlier today. Check their website and the things they do with kids - and how they transform systems and society - and challenge our everyday notion on democracy.
The visit at MIKU is one of six visits on a two day eye-opener on youth+cultural+business projects in Stockholm.

More drawings from the ministry of Integration

See below for more info in the event.

Local network needs to bridge to young people with ideas

A network on a mission: To encourage young people to come forward with their ideas - and the network then provides support, manpower and finally some money to get the idea going. Only problem: Not many has heard about the network and their mission. So we spent a day brainstorming on how to communicate this. The solution was a mix between Guerilla and Viral marketing. A content workshop has been planned in august - hands on the messages and the media. Pictures below show some of the network guys and girls in the Lyddokken soundstudio in Frederikshavn. As a surprise, we arranged a short recording session - so now we have a soundtrack to put on Youtube - let's get viral!

Leadership with Post-it

Ideas and making change happen goes well with the famous Post-it notes. Drawing a map-like poster with the sticky things helped a group realize the answer to their particular challenge. Everything is now set into motion.

Graphic recording at the Ministry of Integration, DK

How do you get young people with multicultural backgrounds to feel included in the society? That’s the main question at an INTEGRATION CAMP at the Ministry of Integration in Copehagen, Denmark, may 27+28 2008. 20 people with personal experiences, deep expert knowledge and employees at the ministry are attending and processing/brainstorming/performing new ideas on how to adress the challenge. Kathrine Rasmussen (the Kaospilots) is facilitator and Stine (Bananrepublikken) + Jens Ole (Soulfighters) are graphic recorders. Here, the first murial from day one.

Manchester / Game Master Training

A test run of the FUTURE CITY GAME (SOON TO BE ROLLED OUT IN EUROPE / Soulfighters will be Gamemaster in Denmark) the subject being Manchester. My group had an idea transforming Manchesters old - now dead - cotton industry into a new knowledgebased, innovative, environmentally focused learning-city: THE GREEN LEARNING SPACE. (See prior post for more information on the game)

Manchester / Game Master Training

Three days of training and fine tuning the Future City Game. Invited by British Counsil - we were about 30 facilitators from Europe and the Middle East escaping the sun and focusing on getting it right. The game is a proces tool designed by British Counsil and partners to be used for urban planning/regeneration/development/social problems - and generally challenges that a city faces.
Here are some snapshots from the process. Now everybody is going back to start up games in their own countries. Just want to thank everybody that was there - keep in touch!

Poster workshop / youth+politicians

In Frederikshavn, 15-25 year olds are getting their own house - but not without some work. In fact, their work is the foundation that the house is being built on. So, 25 young people did a poster workshop (led by Soulfighters). We had 3 hours - before the leading politicians came in and engaged in the dialouge concerning the house and the kids ideas. Again, the visual work proved a major driver in the communication. Futher proces is now planned. Everyone had a great time! Hail the poster!

See, this is what we have been doing!

A simple drawing of a proces helps everyone understand the situation and the road to where we are now. Here, it´s part past and part future. Anyway, its engaging and very communicating - on many levels in an organisation. Client: Local government, Denmark.

Two kids on the block

This nice photo was taken this evening - just before sunset. Flash on. Shot in a series to be used in a school project by these two. Jacob left and Simon on the right are making posters and flyers on the subject: Teenagers, and how to cope with them on a daily basis! Highly relevant - and fun.

Soulfighters pledge

MINUS 21 – ”yes, if you are 21, you wont get a job here...”

Ad agency in Denmark, where you have to be under 21 to work. CEO Stig Christiansen, who had the idea when doing the dishes at a local restaurant, contemplated on why the advertising business is so keen on connecting to the young – but are using old methods. He set up workshops, where he invited other young people – through SMS and dynamic networks – to participate and the most interesting and best were hired afterwards. The company is now employing 5 people and are mainly serving customers in the local area. WEBSITE

How to make a climate change

A new mucical concept is here - and going global. "SEE YOU TOO" - as you can imagine, derived from Co2 - is our contribution to the big talk on CLIMATE! Denmark is hosting the climate conference in 2009 - and this idea is meant to create awareness om climate change and what you need to do about it - through the fine art of singing, playing and acting. In short, it is a web based musical - lyrichs, music and storyline is downloadable - ready for translation in any local language. Then, after one week of rehearsal - the musical is ready to be performed. Target group: 12-14 olds.
Right now we are seeking investors to back up this absolutely mindblowing event!
Idea: Viggo Steincke, Jens Ole Amstrup

Warsaw - lets jazz!

On my way home from a very inspiring workshop on CREATIVE CITIES (more on this later) - I am posting this phone-pic of a local polish jazz band performing at the Tygmont Club last night. GREAT gig - I am not into jazz at all, but I can recognize good music, when I hear it. GO THERE - it is a top club in Warsaw. I will be posting much more on the WORKSHOP: Creative Cities hosted by British Counsil 16-18 march 2008. In the meantime, check the Creative City Facebook group

Blog you later, guys!

SOLUTION CAMP

>> A visual punch at the local educationsystem
Friday to saturday this weekend - 10 young people will be debating (and visualizing) on how the educationsytem is working - and why so many young people drop out of school. In Denmark the goal is that by 2015 95% graduates (today it is 82%) from one of the youtheducations that is preliminary to either university or other form of education/work.

I am facilitating the CAMP, and will be using different kinds of visual tools to caputure all of the ideas that emerge.

The results from this CAMP will be presented on a conference held later this spring.

Great People

Now comes the hard part: To stay in contact.
Well, theese guys are definately gonna get some mail and other annoying artefacts from Denmark. Right now I'm waiting for my plane in SF Int. Airport. And my karma just goes out to the VizThink people for making the event happen. Will be back for the Europe version. Hope to see some familiar faces. All for now.
